Gospel: Mk 8:11-13
The Demand for a Sign
The Pharisees came up and started a discussion with him; they demanded of him a sign from heaven, to test him. And with a sigh that came straight from the heart he said, ‘Why does this generation demand a sign? I tell you solemnly, no sign shall be given to this generation.’ And leaving them again and re-embarking he went away to the opposite shore.
Reflection
Does God really exist? We send up our petitions to Him in earnest prayer but He does not seem to answer them very much. Some of our families are still without peace, illnesses are not healed, and we still lost our loved ones. It becomes so easy to lose hope and trust in God. But when a prayer is answered the way we had asked for, we are momentarily inspired and we change our stand that God does actually exist. And the cycle continues in this test of God’s love and existence, and gauging thereafter if He can really be trusted.
How has God remained faithful to you, even in moments of trials and sufferings?
