Gospel: Mk 6:53-56
Cures at Gennesaret
Having made the crossing, Jesus and his disciples came to land at Gennesaret and tied up. No sooner had they stepped out of the boat than people recognised him, and started hurrying all through the countryside and brought the sick on stretchers to wherever they heard he was. And wherever he went, to village, or town, or farm, they laid down the sick in the open spaces, begging him to let them touch even the fringe of his cloak. And all those who touched him were cured.
The people in today’s Gospel identified in Jesus His power to heal. They sought after Him because they knew also of His generosity and compassion for those who are unwell. And Jesus did not fail them; He healed all of them. What great joy and renewed hope they must have experienced!
We too are not whole; physically, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. Jesus comes to us today not as a physical person as He was in Gennesaret but in forms of the Sacraments of the Church and through people He sends to help and walk with us through life’s journey. He shows us where we can find Him.
What in your life needs healing today? Do you recognize Jesus as your Healer too?
